Bonded by Thorns by Elizabeth Helen

“Look at me. The girl who barely passed gym class scaling the side of a castle like I ‘m mutherfucking Robin Hood.”

Did you ever wish some fae would appear and take you out of this world? Yes? In that case, Rosie is living your dream, but only if you don’t mind being a prisoner to four beautiful fays changing into wolves at night. Still, sounding good? Then, let’s take a look at Bonded by Thorns.

Meet Rosalie, our main protagonist and book lover, who is different from anyone in their little city. Rosalie lives in Orca Cove with her father, who believes that her mother was abducted by mythical faes and is laughed at by the whole town because he believes in fea. Rosalie, for sure, does not have an easy life. Her mother is missing, her father is never there, the townspeople do not like her, and her ex is abusive to the point that it seems like she has Stockholm syndrome.

One day, she is at an event in town when someone tells her they found her father’s jacket, and he is probably in trouble. She will look for him and get to the realm of fea, where goblins immediately attack her and her ex. Some things happen, and she finds herself at the Castle of fea, exchanging her life for her father’s. Here, we begin our romantic adventure with four fea princes who are cursed to change into wolves at night until they find their true mate, and our brave heroine will try to save them all. Will she be successful? We will see…

“The Spring Prince?: I snort.” I snort. “You mean the masked man in the armor? Yeah, I met him. He wrapped his hand around my throat and choked me out.”
Marigold sits beside me on the bed, eyes wide. “How hard?”
My eyes widen. “What?”

She gives a devious leer. “Well, if any of the princes wanted to wrap their hand aroun my throat—“

Characters

Rosalie

Doesn’t every bookish girl sometimes feel a little like Rosie? She wants nothing else but to own her little romance bookstore and be with her books all day. I sure would like that. I like Rosalie a lot. She is not a perfect character. I even think that she is suffering from a little Stockholm syndrome with her abusive ex, but I think most of us have some pretty shi*y exes in our lives, so who am I to judge her ๐Ÿ˜‚ Her commitment to her father is admirable. However, as we know, this is loosely based on Beauty and Beast, so there are no surprises about her personality there. And yes, it was my favorite movie when I was young. Don’t judge me or try to look for my traumas ๐Ÿ˜… So obviously, there is no surprise that I love her. She is a bit too emotional in some scenes, but I did not mind.

Fay princes

I will not make any decisions on our five sexy faes right now. This book smelled similar to Court of Thorns and Roses from S.J.Mass, so I need to wait at least until I read book two. I am not promising anything, but I liked all of them, and even our villain was excellent.

Side characters

What can I say? I am a sucker for good side characters, and Marigold and Astrid just made my day with their funny comments. Especially Marigold’s spicy comments were hilarious.

Now, let’s look at the story and everything surrounding it. As I mentioned before, it is a spicey retelling (sort of) of Beauty and the Beast, and most of the main story revolves around it. Was writing amazing? Probably not. Was the story unique? Not in the slightest. Was I kicking my feet and giggling through the whole book? Absolutely. Even though this book doesn’t do anything surprising and unique, it was one of my best reads this year. I enjoyed every bit of it and read it through two days, neglecting almost all my responsibilities.

“You do not need a stuffed lion.” Dayton pulls me away from the vendor’s stall, full of sewed plush animals and other fantastical creatures.
“But it got wings, Dayton.” I whine

I just loved the chemistry between the princes and our heroine. Sparkles were bursting out of pages right through me. The only one I am not sold on is her chemistry with Ezryn. He is so distant from her that I could not figure out why she likes him. Others, no problem; grumpy Kal is calling to every keeper’s heart to save him. Farron’s sweet, shy, and intellectual personality… oh boy… you must love the academy vibe. Dayton is just such a tease who doesn’t love it if the childish boy cuts someone’s hands to save you. Just Ezryn… okay, he is doing everything right for her, but… I don’t know; he is missing his personality for now. I hope he will gain some in the following books.

This book was a fantastic, spicy read for any girly who loves Beauty and the Beast or Court of Thorns and Roses.
It is fun and addicting, and I am sad that I did not buy all the books together because this is a bindable series in my eyes.
