Demon Bound by Nina k. Westra – Review

What would you do if your husband is not right in the head, and you feel trapped and scared for your life? You will free the demon he is trying to bound and hope for the fast death… That is exactly what happens in Demon Bound by Nina k. Westra, obviously? 😏

Overall Rating

“It’s… sort of a fluid?” she said. “When a mortal male climaxes, his body releases his seed into the woman’s womb.” “Oh.” He arched an eyebrow. “No. I don’t have that.” “Strange.” He seemed faintly amused. “I’m strange? I would argue that your ‘seed fluid’ is strange.” “Fair enough.”

Synopsis

Welcome to the Ardani, world like from fairytale where you have paladins, elfs and roamers that ride something like elk? Here we meet Raiya which is kinda rune engineer that can write runes that will create different uses for devices like sleep devices or well weapons that will shoot light. Pretty badass hm? But Raiya is married to lord of dickheads (sorry for my language, but that man rubbed me wrong from begging) Nirlan. He is just crazy ass. He decided that he will bound a demon from hell to him so he can have more power. Raiya is so desperate to get away from him that she choose rather to die than to be with him and free demon. Things just go a little different that she expected.

Thoughts

Oh, I have so many thoughts about this book. I went to it without many expectations. But this book surprised me. I did not want to put it down. Was the premise groundbreaking? No… Was it super fun? No… Was it really spicy? Kinda, but not super hot, more like awkward hot. Was it having me on my toes through the book that I did not know what to expect? Also, no… But I wanted to continue reading and know how characters will act. It wasn’t about ending, I was pretty sure how it ends. I am kinda in lose of words why this book was so engaging that I read it in two days.

Big bad demon

I think the main reason that keep me going was Azreths evolution. I wanted to know how he can become a love interest that will appeal to a woman that was living with an abusive husband. He was not soft at the beginning, it seemed like impossible to make it work, but it does. Nina found a way how to make blue demon that tears apart humans limp from limp to become nice and loveably character in way that did not felt unreal.(well as much real as blue demon with magical hands can be 😁)

healing from trauma

Oh Raiya, I felt so sorry for her at the beginning. I hate when woman ends with asshat as Nirlan. And Yes, I hated that efing moron with my whole heart. I love when an author gave you a villain you can just hate without trying to understand his motives. He was just an ass and idiot and… Uch I would end him by myself if I could. I loved that Raiya decided that if she will die, she will take that muthertrucker with her. Yes, you can say by my language that I really hate him. And I also loved her evolution through book. More on that on spoiler section lower.

Hands, so many hands

Let’s talk spice. This is a spicy book, BUT spicy scenes are a bit more emotional at begging. Don’t take me wrong, they are hot, they just have an underlying tone about taking control back after years of abuse for both of the MCs. I would rate them 3 🌶️. There are some interesting scenes that left me guessing how many hands someone needs 😁😏

Spoilers

As I mention I was a fan of Raiyas evolution from abused wife to badass warrior that decided to take over her ex-husband (well not ex I think they did not have divorce there, but you understand) but what I really like was her internal fight she had about Nirlan… She hated him with her whole being, but she still loved him once and was abused by him mentally and physically, and that desire of an abused person to believe that he loved you back and that he can change was shown exquisitely at the end of the book when she does not see he was lying to her again.

Demon Bound by Nina k. Westra is a spicy fantasy journey full of healing old wounds and character growth I wasn’t expecting. If you want some easy fantasy read that is spicy but have some depth and like big blue demons, this is exactly read for you.
